A lifelong resident of Crittenden County and a graduate of Crawfordsville High School, Dennis Sorrell attended and received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1971 from the University of Arkansas. Upon graduation Dennis was employed by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department as an Assistant Resident Engineer. After one year he left the Department and joined with Bond Consulting Engineers Inc. of West Memphis where he became a partner and principal engineer in 1976. In 1992 Dennis left Bond Engineering to start his own business, Sorrell Consulting Engineers which he continued to own and operate until his death September 7, 2014.

Dennis was a registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in both Tennessee and Arkansas for 45 years. He was devoted to his work and business and was an active member of the West Memphis Chamber of Commerce for 25 years. The business was built upon his strong personal relationships with clients both in the public and private sector. His business focused on performing design and improvement projects in the East Arkansas area which included railroad spurs, subdivisions, apartment complexes, industrial parks, municipal water and sewer project as well as land surveying and project supervision.

Dennis was a devoted father, grandfather and an avid Arkansas Razorback fan and he is missed by countless individuals throughout Crittenden County who have relied on his vast knowledge. Dennis contribution to the fields of Engineering and Surveying will have lasting marks throughout Eastern Arkansas.
